F e a r – spells mediocrity, something we all don’t want to be subjected to!
Most of our pocket wisdom is conceived for the use of mediocre people, to discourage them from ambitious attempts, and generally console them in their mediocrity.
Robert Louis Stevenson
I have been thinking about ‘fear’ lately and contemplating what is holds us back from – e v e r y t h in g – if we let it!
It is spoken about much and often ignored – but we must face up to it, before it’s too late!
I have heard a lot of ‘artists’ surrender to it such as painters, singers, composers, dancers and writers – anything with a ‘ers’ on the end really.
Writing is a common art form for me and ‘fear’ strikes me when I am looking and not looking for it – this quote sums it up “the fear that our words and their meaning may reveal something that we know, feel or think that may hurt those around us.”
In all honesty, I don’t want to let fear get at me anymore – it needs to know who’s in charge – I am taking back my ‘art form’ and it is by duty to keep writing not abstain from it.
Being realistic, we all have struggled with fear – I imagine Ernest battled with it while he completed many books and lived a full life.
Do not let fear stop you from doing what you want to do – we only live once so we must get out there and … do it!
With 2012 coming to an end and 2013 not too far away, why not finish the year off with overcoming a fear! Let’s stop being mediocre and average, push past the barrier and succeed!
