Letting go

It isn’t the easiest thing, or the hardest thing – or is it? For some it can be but for others it is as easy as taking home a pay cheque (well, you did in the 90’s) each week. It’s a bit like starting a new school year and wanting to get new things to start the year but not wanting to throw away your old school bag. It had lived vicariously through you the year before, it witnessed your first kiss in the locker room, it saw you cry yourself to sleep all night after your best friend betrayed you and it had put up with your bad moods once a month. You even named it – Larry. You feel ill just thinking about throwing ‘Larry’ away, he had been through so much with you!

Oh, these were the days when all we had to worry about was throwing about your old school bag or how to wear your hair on the first day of school and where to sit on the bus to make sure you made good friends.

Oh how life would be grand if this was all we had to worry about …. or would it?

To be honest, if I think back to my childhood I would always have something to ‘worry’ about whether it was ‘Larry’ or my cat scratching me or my sister hiding my Barbie – that’s life.

We need to stop ‘worrying’ and start letting go of things in the past so we can make room for the future and all it has to offer.

In order to get a shiny new schoolbag, I must get rid of the old one or at least make room for the new one – or it would be pointless having it at all!

So … what are you going to let go today?

Today I am letting go of all the past hurt feelings , broken promises made by friends and everything I may be holding on.

Let the new day begin … now!

“The beautiful journey of today can only begin when we learn to let go of yesterday.”
