Sunsets and certainty

Every night I watch the sunset from my balcony. It’s something I have never really done before until the last 12 months. I have never really stopped to ‘smell the roses’ until I realised, at the end of each day, it’s a comfort to know the sun will set and a new day will rise. That is something I can be certain of!

I think it’s knowing I can rely on the sun to rise and set at almost the same time each day, give or take the change of seasons.

The basic needs in life include water, food, shelter, some comforts and certainty. We can survive without water or food for a few days but certainty I think is a basic survival need and instinct.

The meaning according to the dictionary is:
1. something that is certain
2the quality or state of being certain especially on the basis of evidence

There are so many uncertainties in life such as the weather, your job security and your health and passing of a loved one.

Sunsets are my stable certainty each day, that get me through a good day and help me even more on a not so good day.

So next time, look up and enjoy the sunrise or sunset. Stop, take it in and do it again the next day, until it becomes a habit. It’s great to enjoy the few certainties in life!
